What it does
- A trustee is listed as the domain's registrant, meeting the extension's local-presence rules.
- Your organization keeps control of the domain in Domain Pool and pays for it as usual.
- WHOIS privacy is required with the Trustee Service, so the trustee's details stay out of public WHOIS. Checkout turns it on automatically.
- The service renews every year together with the domain, on the same renewal invoice.
How it works
- Choose your domain Search for a domain to register, or start a transfer. Add it to your cart.
- Turn on the Trustee Service at checkout If the extension supports it, the cart shows a Trustee Service option for that domain with its yearly price. Switch it on.
- We complete the setup The domain is registered or transferred, and our team sets up the trustee arrangement. We'll email you when it's ready.
.co.jp domains
- A .co.jp can only be registered by a company registered in Japan, and each company can hold only one .co.jp.
- If your organization doesn't have one, the trustee can hold the .co.jp for you.
- A trustee-held .co.jp can only redirect visitors to another domain you own. It can't host a website or email, and its DNS records, nameservers and web forwarding can't be changed from your dashboard.
- At checkout you enter the domain it should redirect to. Our team registers it and sets up the redirect by hand, and emails you when it's live.
- To change the redirect destination later, send a request from the domain's Transfer tab.
Ownership changes and transfers
- While the Trustee Service is active, ownership changes and transfers out are handled by Domain Pool staff rather than self-service — the new owner or registrar has to meet the extension's rules too.
- Send a request from the domain's Transfer tab. Request it well before the domain's renewal date; otherwise the Trustee Service renews with the domain.
Good to know
- Availability depends on the extension. If checkout doesn't show the Trustee Service for a domain, it isn't offered for that extension.
- Some extensions also accept Domain Pool's Local Presence service, which uses Domain Pool's own local contact instead of the registrar's trustee. Checkout shows whichever options apply to a domain.
